Two Young men, A picture and a Graveyard in Zarqa

Ok for those of you who never visited one.. This is how a graveyard looks in Jordan...

It was Wed, the day before yesterday to be more accurate... I had to go to a funeral in Zarqa and I had no idea where the Hashimiya Graveyard is, so I went to Zarqa... I drove and drove for ages... I needed directions badly so at the first sight of a crowd... I asked two young men for directions, they looked decent, one with fair skin the other a bit darker... They started giving me complex directions and another old man with a long beard stepped in, interrupted them and started giving me clearer directions...

The two young men still stood in the background while the old man gave me directions... I glanced at them as they spoke and saw them smile... The old man walked away smiling at me, I thanked him for being so helpful...

The two young men approached me again and asked with some hesitation in their eyes... "Are you going to the graveyard?" I said sure, hump in... I had no idea why I said that... maybe it was one of those moments when you don't use logic to calculate risks... maybe I was overconfident thinking they wouldn't dare pull a stunt on someone at my age who could fight back... maybe it was because I picked them they didn't pick me... The truth is I didn't think at that moment, I just thought these guys needed a ride... And I felt too friendly, besides they looked honest and I trust my judgement...

Anyway, One sat beside me the other behind me to the right... "Elna naseib net3arraf 3aleikom elyawm", I said with a smile... thinking back, that was friendly & absolutely naive... I started driving and when I started going away from the crowded streets I realized I made a mistake... I started thinking, they are two, one of them has the advantage sitting behind me... They couldn't be going to the graveyard just like that? they were heading in the opposite direction when I stopped them...

I was still comfortable until one of them said we should take the next turn right to get to the graveyard... I looked for a sign that says graveyard or something & guess what? I saw nothing... The road obviously led to someplace with almost no traffic...

I said to myself, maybe I'll find that sign... I took the turn (stupid ha)... but I still saw traffic in my mirror... and there it was a few meters away... a green sign with the writing almost totally erased... I felt more relaxed...

I asked them why are you going to the graveyard... they said "we thought we'll show you the way and because of our MOTHER"... at that point I was in complete shock, I didn't know what to feel... Amazed and sad to say the least... It wasn't long until we reached the graveyard...

I offered to get them to closer to their beloved grave but they refused, they walked beneath the burning sun and walked... they thought they burdened me enough by giving them a ride to the graveyard... I insisted "it was only a few minutes and you don't have to walk all that distance" but their mind was set... "thank you" they said... "hayyakom allah ya e7'wan"

As I looked at them walking away, I thought... How sad... How faithful... Mother's day was just last week... How will they go back, they have a really long walk to get back to the main road... It's a hot day today... How could they decide to come with me so suddenly... their Mother is dead...

I realized, they saw an opportunity to go and visit their mother's grave, I guess I was a sign for them, one man out of nowhere taking them to the grave they loved the most... They probably decided to go there the minute when the old bearded man interrupted and started giving me directions...

I remember the smile in the background & the hesitation... I felt like a creep... one thing though, I will keep trusting my first impression, they were definitely honest, faithful and extremely nice...

And we do need more directional signs in Jordan... to get from one point to the next...
