ON DEAD BLOGS and Avoiding it!?
Every reader's nightmare... It's sad... You step into a once great blog, one that was once updated regularly, sometimes a few times every day... with tons of comments and suddenly, it stops breathing, comments are no longer pouring in, it just dies...
The blogger, stopped blogging... Blog readers, stopped coming in... Like everything else, there is a cycle in every blog's life; starting as a baby blog that's small and out of place with minimum public attention but maximum care by the few kind blog parents that nurture that blog (friends and kind bloggers) showering the baby blog with comments and visits... Then if you're lucky enough, an angel aggregator would bring you into the public eyes... My advice is go to Qwaider Planet & Jordan Blogs... That's your safe house, with all the hostility out there, thus stepping into your toddler years and probably even adolescence... You'll meet great new people, some kind and some not so kind... You'll make your bones with tough arguments, you'll probably make some good friends, some die hard fans and quite a few enemies... You might even get into some Blog Wars... Making your bones will prove beneficial, it doesn't hurt to shoot some blogs with heavy commenition (that's comment ammunition:) every now and then just brace yourself for assaults... You'll end up with friends out of no where sharing your views sitting with you in the trenches, you might even end up making friends with rare noble blog enemies that can actually disagree with you and respect you at the same time!
I can't say anything out of personal experience on "Mature Blogs", but to get their would mean breaking into mainstream attention to say the least... Something that would stir public attention to a certain aspect with a magical post... If we reach that point, we can be very sure that blogs will be censored and maintained by certain governmental entities :) we will have to go anon at that point and start all over.
Ok now back to DEAD Blogs, how can you prevent it or at least elongate your blog's life? Turn it into an institution... Loose complete ownership! that is something WE as a culture hate, although it is very useful... Yes you should partner with other bloggers in the sense of establishing a Co-Blog where more than one writer participates. Everyone is a winner, your board of directors will get more publicity, your blog gets more posts and more visits by the friends of all the board members and if you die your blog will keep pumping posts.... A word of advice, though!
Select your co-bloggers carefully, you should have the same core ideology just like every great company, diversity in age and gender is a great thing to have, but the co-bloggers should have an identity of their own...
Now that I've said that, I will be working on it myself...
Can you break that cycle?

What kills me is the layers and generations of arrogance that comes with it. Suddenly someone is a pop sensation, and suddenly they don't talk (or care) about new and younger bloggers! As if talent came to them and stopped!
Anyway, co-blogging is a good idea. I've been doing that for a long time, currently there are 3 others that also post on my blog. They started small. And with every passing day they great stronger and eventually some flew away and created their own. Some created many others and are very successful. Of course I wish all of them lots of luck
Check out my generations post
I just opened mine and now I have writer's block after the maiden post :)
