A wake up call from a Man in 3ajloun... "3ajloun is surrounded!"
He's in his mid thirties, works as a driver in a project in the Dead Sea... He gets 7 Jd's a day and pays 3 JD's for transportation on a daily basis... I know him to be a man of integrity an honest man to say the least, kind hearted and so proud of himself...
He speaks eloquently, knows what to say and how to say it... Just this morning he passed by and told us that he wanted to buy a gasoline wood saw, because "no one can afford a gallon of diesel at the cost of 7 JD's".
His words reminded me that we still live in Jordan, people that get paid around 250 JD's are the majority... "Who can afford tomato these days or potato?" his words echoed in my now hollow head as he spoke... and his word continued to rain like bullets on unarmed men in Palastine.... "3ajloun is a very cold place many people are collecting shoes - ajallakom allah- and burning them because they cannot afford wood or "Jeft" to keep warm!" he continued... "Irbid had its share and so did Jarash but the government doesn't invest in 3ajloun... 3ajloun is surrounded!?"
He then told me a story, that was obviously famous in 3ajloun, about a young girl who lived in a water tank with her sister and mother... Their father died and left them to the horrible fate... He said that it was discovered by a school teacher who later informed people in the municipality... They ended up in a two room rented apartment as the story goes...
I felt so blessed but I felt I didn't really know what he was talking about... I couldn't speak for a while after he finished... bel3arabi safanet for a while... I remembered the stories my father used to talk about when they visited people south of Jordan in villages long forgotten... Poor beyond imagination... Giving a man some flower and sugar meant a lot...
There must be something to be done... Jordan is not only Amman, it is certainly not only West Amman... we sometimes forget that, I think the authorities forget that simple fact when they sit in the Parliament and quarrel with reporters or harass women... when they plan development and industrial projects, if they do plan at all...
